This was my first time reading this authors work. I really enjoyed the storyline---the author can do so much with it and as a reader I was unsure how things were going to turn out(which is good). Often times books are written in a way that reader is able to predict the ending by the first chapters, that was not the case with this book. Even though I am looking forward to part 2 I believe there are a few areas that the author can improve upon to make this a 5 star read. 1.) There should be a smoother transition between chapters, it felt too choppy and a little rushed. 2.) Less focus on the labels! Since this book had several charcaters its not necessary to state the labels that each charcter is wearing. For example: "She put on her prada shoes, grabbed her gucci handbag and matching gucci scarf" Its too much and it takes away from the story. Again, its ok to mention labels just in moderation---I found myself a little tired of it. Like ok we get it she is in too fashion but lets get back to the story. Overall, I thought the book was a good start for the writer---I am looking forward to see what she does with part 2 and what changes are made to her writing style to make this a 5 star read.

Forever and a Day Jasmine Barber 9781482548365 Books Reviews

Okay, so I read the description and it sounded like the type of book I like to read; but just like any other reader, I checked out the reviews. First thing I noticed was how all the 1 and 2 star reviews said mostly the same things. Let me start off by saying I would have to agree with the other reviews. It is NOT necessary to mention the name brand of everything they buy or decide to put on,it's too much. I have noticed plenty of errors for example "Either you do or you don't,kiy said, their is no inbetween". I noticed this error a lot in the book. The only thing that is supposed to go in between the quotation marks, is what is being said by the characters. Plenty of times I got confused, I'm thinking "Why are they speaking in third person, in the middle of a sentence?". To explain more of what I mean, after the writer quotes what a character is saying, afterwards they will mentioned who said what, and/or their reaction. This writer actually including that in the quotation marks WITH what was being said by the person. I noticed that "kiy's" complexion kept switching up throughout the story. When she first met him, he was either brown or darkskin, then he is lightskin, in bri's words "so light she decided to give him the nickname "lightbright". Further into the story, he is back to being brownskin. Umm What? Smh. When kiy showed up at the first confrontation between kris and bri, he told bri that he broke up with samara. The next chapter when bri was staying at kiy house, she thought to herself "oh wait, how can me and him be in a relationship if he is still dating samara". It wasn't written that way verbatim, but close. Anyhoo, how is it that one minute he broke up with her, then the next minute their magically still together as if he never broke it off with her? This is where I paused in the book to write this review. To the writer, you have so much potential and the storyline is awesome, but hunnie, next time you write a book, make sure you proof read and make sure you STICK to the storyline, and that every thing stays on point. I also suggest if you hired an editor for this book, you fire them and find a new one. And I have to also agree with the other reviewers that the chapters where rushed, meaning they were too short. And another thing they mentioned, I don't understand how these women are supposed to be high class, professional women, and act so ghetto and hood like...very unrealistic. I mean I know some professional people who can be ghetto like when someone pisses them off, but these girls were like this ALL THE TIME. And what female do you know would break things off with a dude before things got started, because of what another guy ASSUMED about her friend?
I'm not going to sit here and beat you down and talk bad about your book like some people, because for one... I've never in my life written a book. I'm sure it's a pretty hard thing to do. I give you a lot of respect for what you've accomplished. Now, I give this book 2 stars because in my opinion, the characters were not very realistic. These people were suppose to be professional and career oriented but yet their behavior and mannerisms were like they were a bunch of hood rats and thugs straight out of the projects. With the careers that these characters have, I wouldn't expect them to start fights in the mall or in clubs. I can't really say there were any characters in this book that I liked. All the girls were too ghetto and all the guys were too thuggish. This book was not what I expected. Obviously there are a lot of people who really liked this book so I guess that makes me the minority. Good luck with your future work. Again, please don't take this review as a bad thing. I'm in the minority.
I took chance in reading this book based upon the reviews. The storyline was good BUT needed to be developed BETTER. This book is about 5 best friends and the men in their lives. Brielle is the main character. She runs her her own business as a successful image consultant with high profile clients such as professional athletes and people in the entertainment industry.
Brielle has broken it off with her boyfriend Jaiden aka Murder. He is not happy with the brake-up and is determined to get her back. Brielle then meets someone else with whom there is a strong attraction, Kiyan Sanchez. Kiyan co-owns his own record label called Royalty Records. He has a small circle of friends with whom he grew up with and trusts them implicitly.
Kiyan invites Brielle and her friends to a party he was having at a night club to celebrate signing a new artist to his label. The ladies of course went and all had a great time. Kiyans' friends are attracted to some of her friends and make plans to meet up again. Thus begins the DRAMA.
The story did not flow smoothly at all. It was very CHOPPY. The characters needed to be developed more. This book could have gotten five stars if not for those issues. I would also suggest to the author that she does alot more proof reading due to lots of grammatical errors. MORE EDITING!!! Ms. Barber, you have a good storyline but the execution was lacking. I am however looking forward to the continuation of this story and hoping that it will be better developed and EDITED better ].
